What is urology?
Urology is a surgical branch of medicine concerned with the urinary tract in males and females and with the genital tract and reproductive system of males.

What is a urologist?
A urologist is a physician who specializes in diseases of the male and female urinary systems and the male reproductive system. Due to the variety of clinical problems encountered, urologists must have knowledge of internal medicine, gynecology, pediatrics and other specialties. In order to be certified by the American Board of Urology, urologists must fulfill specified educational and examination requirements.

What are the subspecialty areas?
Urology is classified as a surgical subspecialty. The American Urological Association has identified eight subspecialty areas:
